October 23 is Chulalongkorn Day, the day when the Thai people pay their respects and remember the immeasurable grace of King Chulalongkorn, Rama V. He declared the abolition of slavery and improved and developed the administrative system for the benefit of the Thai people. It is also the anniversary of the death of His Majesty, who was known for his great kindness in many ways, or as Thais affectionately and reverently call him, "Father Rama V."
